This website (“Site”) is maintained by the Center for the Art of East Asia (CAEA), a part of the Department of Art History of the University of Chicago (UChicago), in support of its mission to advance scholarship and teaching by creating, preserving and disseminating knowledge. By using the Site, users agree to follow these conditions of use.
- Responsibility for any use of these materials rests exclusively with the user.
- Some materials in these collections may be protected by the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.). In addition, the reproduction of some materials may be restricted by terms of gift or purchase agreements, donor restrictions, privacy and publicity rights, licensing and trademarks. Transmission or reproduction of materials protected by copyright beyond that allowed by copyright law requires the written permission of the copyright owners.

Copyright and Other Laws
Items on this Site (referred as the “Content”) are protected by copyright, with all rights reserved, unless otherwise indicated. The Content also may be subject to other legal interests, such as rights of publicity. It is intended for use in research, teaching, and study. No commercial use is permitted. Users are responsible for determining whether permission is needed to make any use of the Content that users wish to make, and for obtaining all necessary permissions.

Access
The Content is made publicly accessible with some items only available to authorized members of the CAEA, University of Chicago, and contributing partners due to licensing and institutional agreements.
Privacy
We collect anonymous statistics about visitor behaviors to enhance our understanding of site visits. We do not know personal identifying information such as user’s name or email address unless they provide it to us in a feedback form, sign up for an email newsletter, or interact with us on social media. Even if the information is provided to us, we cannot and do not tie any personal information to a browsing session history. In all cases, we will not sell or knowingly provide information to advertisers or other third parties with one exception. As an educational site, we will use aggregated data about site visits in scholarly communications with our peers.

Citing Items
When using any item from the Site, please give proper credit to the digital collection, including (where applicable):
- Identification of the original item
- Identification of an item's digital format, including its location (URL)
Users may use any preferred style guide for formatting the citation. The Library of Congress provides additional guidance on citing primary sources.
Trademarks
Nothing in these Terms of Use or on the Site shall be construed as granting users any right or license to use any trademark, service mark or logo displayed on the Site. Users agree not to use any name, logo or insignia of CAEA or UChicago in any advertising or promotional materials, or to falsely suggest any relationship between the user and us.
Site Updates
We may change these Terms of Use from time to time without advance notice. Your use of the Site after any changes have been made will constitute your agreement to the modified Terms of Use and all changes.

CAEA provides as much information as is possible, in accordance with community standards and best practices. Due to the limited resources available for investigating individual items and describing them fully, records may lack accurate and/or complete information. If users identify any information that is not represented on the Site or would like to help correct an error, please email caea@uchicago.edu .
